A Tribute to Sheba

A Tribute To Sheba: Yesterday we laid to rest Roy's cat of 15 years and Akira's BFF. Sheba had been dealing with throat cancer for quite some time and were able to honor her desire for a bit more time with Roy Ayala (her "person") and find the divine timing where she was not in distress to assist her transition.

Having the assistance of our pet intuitive is such a gift. She had some very specific requests which we were able to honor and she actually chose the date to cross over the rainbow bridge - Solstice. Maureen, her intuitive friend, kept saying Sheba was referring to the moon but she couldn't understand why until the day of her passing. This Solstice happened to land on a day with a lunar eclipse which apparently happens every 500 years. She wanted to cross over on this auspicious day. She's a powerful soul!

I also wanted to share a few things we learned for any pet "owners" out there - cat or dog - which made ALL the difference in Sheba having a graceful and peaceful crossing when put to sleep. Our acupuncture vet recommended that we pick up an oral sedative the day before to assist her the morning before putting her to sleep. This helped her to be relaxed and peaceful on the morning of and drive over.

Secondly, she suggested that we request she be given Propofol before having the drug administered which would put her body to rest and transition. Propofol is normally used to help you relax before and during general anesthesia for surgery or other medical procedures. By giving her this before the final drug that puts her to sleep this ensured she did not experience any nausea, dizziness, confusion, and sometimes if their body is fighting the drug any distress. This ensured a peaceful sleep and no stress for her (or pet "owner") when assisted to pass. Roy, her "owner", said it was so peaceful and she was then wrapped in a cozy blanket (one of her specific requests) and taken to be cremated. I've never had to be in a vet office and see this procedure take place, however, Roy has with 4 other pets and he has expressed especially the last time with Java the animal experiencing distress when the drug was administered. By giving her the sedative and then Propofol she was so peaceful and had a graceful transition over the rainbow bridge.

I had no idea there were different protocols for this procedure and when hearing about this option I asked Liz (our acupuncture vet) why they don't use it every time and apparently it is more expensive and I guess the vets don't see that it is necessary. I do, and I hope that my FB pet lovers will read this and it will make a difference in your pets' lives and peace. Sheba will be pleased to know she has helped other pets and "owners." We've been in touch since her passing and she was met on the rainbow bridge by Roy's dog Java who passed in February and is very happy and doing well. ♥
