Akira has taught me a lot about grief

akira and me
Akira has taught me a lot about grief over the last 7 months. I've come to realize and learning to accept on a deeper level that life includes pain. And trying to resist or avoid pain results in not being able to experience joy and happiness, too. I get it now.

To the degree we attempt to not feel pain, we will not feel happiness. We are stuck in fear and avoidance of feeling. From childhood on I became adverse to pain and no accident have a highly sensitive dog adverse to pain, too.

With the journey of Akira's spider bite, cancer, amputation and ongoing pain management issues, I am "asked" to deeply explore pain, life, and being taught to feel it all. Learning to embrace ALL of life and in doing so finding grace, gratitude, compassion, and yes joy in the little things and moments.

This person's writing on how to deal with grief has some golden nugget thoughts I felt called to pass on. I suspect I'll be returning to it and wanted to memorialize on my timeline, too.

Everyone has pain, consider compassion for others today (and yourself).
