Akira Update - what, I can float

Akira Update: "What?! I can float? What the h@!ck is going on here, mom?"

Today was a good today! We feel like we are on a roller coaster with "good" days and then the next seems like two steps back, but she is progressing and at a new phase.

Realized we cut back on the lidocaine patch too quickly, were hoping to get off them altogether this week. Now have a new plan. We've made great strides with them, but she is hyper-sensitive to changes that cause pain. So we stepped back just one step and keeping her on the patch (only through the night now + 1/2 a patch so that's progress).

You can see her new rehab specialist, Maya from Tsavo's, in this picture of Akira learning to float. SO cute!! Really good!

She had to be held during her "anxiety time" of the night, 1:30-7:30 am, but she slept almost the entire time. Progress again. She has developed this circadian rhythm which is super hard on both Roy and me where her system wakes at this time and has anxiety. This is our greatest hurdle at the moment, having to sleep at 4-hour increments at un-natural times of the day.

I can say one thing, I will never take life for granted again. Time is precious and I am learning the true meaning of "seize the moment." We take Akira in for "doggie daycare" with her vet twice a week and are now hiring a pet sitter through December while she progresses with rehab as we create normalcy in our lives again.
